An excursion to the Shamrock’s and Leprechaun’s island

Last week we went on our excursion to Dublin, Ireland, and got the chance to discover this beautiful city and its culture. Arriving at Dublin Airport, we weren't surprised to be welcomed by typical Irish weather (fluid sunshine) but for the rest of the week the weather brightened up and we even got real sunshine.

So for the next four and a half days we stayed at Abigail's Hostel in the centre of the city next to the River Liffey. Our personal highlights were the nightly trips to the pubs in and around Temple Bar. Each with traditional live music as for example "Whiskey in the Jar" and of course: Guinness. In the storehouse, which we also visited, we found out about the history of Guinness, its production and enjoyed the 360° view of Dublin.

Furthermore we visited St. Michan’s church with its mummies and we attended the award-winning Literary Pub Crawl. We went from pub to pub and two guides acted scenes from the works of the most famous Irish writers. At the end of the tour, we took part in a quiz and one of our students (Nico Schächer) won the first price by answering most of the questions right. Well, he answered two questions, but it was enough to obtain the T-shirt, anyway.

One evening we went on the "creepy" Ghost Bus through Dublin, but in the end it wasn't really scary. On our last day we took the train to Howth, a peninsula near Dublin. We loved the view over the sea, experienced Fish ‘n’ Chips and even saw seals swimming in the harbour.

In general we had a great journey and enjoyed our time together!
